Charging Virtual Credit Cards
Table of Contents
If you have a hotel or Bed & Breakfast business and would like to charge Virtual Credit Cards that you receive from Online Travel Agency (OTA) websites, you will need the Manual Key Entry (MKE) feature enabled on your terminal. This feature is not enabled by default and you will need to contact DISH Support to make a request.
The S1F2 terminal supports MKE transactions through its manual card entry feature. This allows you to key in the card number, expiry date, and security code directly on the terminal.
🔐 Security Considerations
Because the card isn’t physically tapped, inserted, or swiped, MKE transactions follow different security and liability rules, so they should only be used when appropriate.
Because MKE payments are higher‑risk, you should:
- Only accept card details from the verified customer
- Never write down card details and never store CVV/CVC codes
- Follow PCI DSS guidelines for handling card‑not‑present data
If something feels suspicious, you should decline the transaction or request an alternative payment method.
MKE payments are considered insecure. There is no liability shift and you are fully liable for fraud chargebacks related to MKE payments.
