Orders - Borro Reusable Cup Deposits in DISH POS 🇳🇱
Table of Contents
DISH POS introduce Borro, a reusable cup system with deposits. You add a deposit to selected products, register the cups that belong to a paid order, and Borro handles the cup return and the deposit refund. Setup is done in the Backoffice; the daily workflow takes place in the POS App.
What do you need to know?
How it works
A deposit is configured as a packaging profile and attached to a product. When staff add that product to an order, the deposit is added to the order automatically. After the order is paid, the POS App opens a Scan deposit cups window where staff scan the cups linked to the order. The POS then sends the cup details, the deposit amount and the payment reference to Borro. Borro manages cup returns and initiates the refunds.
What this means for staff
One extra step after payment (scan the cups), plus a fallback to keep serving if scanning is not available.
What this means for guests
The order includes a cup deposit, and Borro handles the return and refund. The integration can be set up per location and is designed not to block sales when scanning is skipped or unavailable.
| Who | What they do |
|---|---|
| Restaurant manager or owner | Sets up the deposit in the Backoffice: packaging profile, product link and Borro integration for each location. |
| Restaurant staff | Adds deposit products, takes payment, scans the cups, and uses the fallback if scanning is unavailable. |
| Borro | Provides your API key, manages cup returns and initiates the refunds. |
| DISH Support | Helps you activate Borro and answers questions about the setup. |
Before you start
- Borro is activated for your DISH account. If you do not see Deposit registration under General > External integrations, contact DISH Support

- For Frontoffice: Luxembourg-01 or higher (v3s455b0.0)
- Make sure that the deposit registration integration feature toggle is enabled.
- You have the Borro API key and your Adyen merchant account name available.

How to set up Borro
1Create a packaging profile
A packaging profile defines the deposit applied to the product.
- Log in to the Backoffice and go to General > Packaging profiles.
- Click Add profile (top right).
- Fill in the form (numbers match the screenshot below) and click Save.

| # | Field | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Name | Required. A name staff can recognise. |
| 2 | Price | Required. The deposit amount. |
| 3 | Including VAT | Select if the price includes VAT. |
| 4 | VAT | Required. Use the VAT rate that applies to your deposit. |
| 5 | Sales name | The label shown in the POS App. |
| 6 | Your reference | Optional, for external purposes. |
Expected result: The profile appears in the Packaging profiles list.
2Link the profile to a product
- Go to Products > Products and search for the product.
- Edit the product and select the profile in the Packaging profile field.
- Click Save, and make sure the product is available on the menu.
- Go to General > General > Send to send the changes to the server.

You can also assign the profile to a whole group under Products > Product groups > Edit product group. After saving and sending, check the deposit on a real test order.
Expected result: When the product is added in the POS App, the order includes its deposit.
3Configure the external integration
- Go to General > External integrations.
- Click Add External Integration and select Deposit registration.
- Fill in the form (numbers match the screenshot) and click Save.
- Send the changes to the server (General > General > Send).

| 3 | API URL | Fixed value. Leave unchanged. |
| 4 | API Key | The key you received from Borro. |
| 5 | Adyen merchant account | Needed for refunds through Adyen. |
| 6 | Packaging profile | The profile created in step 1. |
Expected result: The integration appears in the External integrations list for the location.
4Test before you go live
Run a test order to make sure everything works: add a deposit product and check the deposit amount; pay with a supported payment method and check that the scan window opens; scan the cups and click Done; then test Disable cup scanning and switch it back on. If you want to be sure, ask Borro to confirm they received the test registration.
How to use Borro in the POS App
These steps are for your staff once the location is set up.
1Add the product and check the deposit
Action: Log in to the POS App and select the product that has a deposit attached. Check the order lines.

Expected result: Each deposit product shows its deposit line, and the total includes it. In the demo, Beer (large) € 4.50 + € 1.50 and Coca cola € 3.50 + € 1.50 gave a total of € 11.00. If a deposit is missing, please contact DISH Support.
2Take payment
Action: Complete the payment with Adyen or another payment method (payment buttons (3) in the screenshot above).
Expected result: After a successful payment the Scan deposit cups window opens.
3Scan the cups
Action: When Scan deposit cups appears, scan each cup linked to the order.

Expected result: The counter goes up with every scanned cup. If it does not change, please contact DISH Support.
4Finish scanning
Action: Check the counter, then click Done.
Expected result: The POS sends the cup details, the deposit amount and the payment reference to Borro. The window also closes automatically after five seconds.
Returns and refunds
Borro manages cup returns and initiates the refunds. Nothing needs to be done in the POS after the cups are registered. If a guest asks, you can say:
Do not promise a refund time, and do not describe the POS scan as a completed refund. Please confirm local return instructions with Borro.
Exceptions and troubleshooting
Scanning is not available
Open the POS App menu and select Disable cup scanning to keep serving guests. The option depends on your user permissions.

| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| No deposit on the order | Please check if the packaging profile is linked to the product or product group, the product is on the menu, and the latest changes were sent (General > General > Send). |
| Scan window does not open | Please check for versions, feature toggle, store integration, payment method and whether scanning is disabled. If it still does not open, contact DISH Support. |
| No “Disable cup scanning” option | Your user permissions. Ask a manager or owner to check them. |
| Scan counter does not change | Rescan the cup. If the counter still does not change, note what you see and contact DISH Support. |
| Payment fails | Retry the payment. The scan window only opens after a successful payment. |
| Refund does not show as expected | The POS does not show refund status. Contact Borro and DISH Support with the payment reference. |
| No “Deposit registration” in the Backoffice | Borro may not be activated for your account yet. Contact DISH Support. |
When you contact DISH Support, have this ready: your restaurant name and location, the time of the issue, the product, the payment method and payment reference, the expected and scanned cup count, the exact message you see, and whether you switched off cup scanning. Never send your API key.
