AWV Reporting Notice (Germany)
Â
What is the AWV reporting rule?
The Foreign Trade and Payments Regulation (Außenwirtschaftsverordnung – AWV) requires anyone residing in Germany to report cross-border payments above €50,000 to the Deutsche Bundesbank.
This rule exists to support Germany’s balance of payments statistics and to ensure transparency in international money flows.
When does it apply?
The AWV reporting obligation only applies if:
A German resident (person or business)
Sends or receives
More than €50,000
To or from a non-resident (a person or company based outside Germany)
👉 Payments between two German accounts are not affected.
👉 Daily customer payments and typical payouts for restaurants remain far below this amount.
What this means for restaurants
If you use our payment solution, you may occasionally see an AWV notice displayed by the payment provider (e.g. Adyen).
This is only an informational message.
Your regular transactions and daily payouts do not trigger any AWV reporting.
You don’t need to take action, unless you ever send or receive a single cross-border payment above €50,000.
How to comply (only if necessary)
If you ever receive or send a cross-border payment above €50,000, you must:
Report it to the Deutsche Bundesbank
Deadline: by the 7th business day of the following month
Use one of the official reporting channels:
The AMS reporting portal of the Bundesbank
The Bundesbank reporting hotline
Keep a record of the submitted report for your documentation.
For most restaurants, this situation never occurs.
