DISH POS Insights - Monitor Sales and Spot Order Exceptions
Table of Contents
DISH POS Insights is a web-based reporting tool that gives you a clear view of what is happening in your venue: how much you have sold, which orders are still open, and which closed orders deserve a second look. This article walks you through the main areas of the application and shows you how to configure the exception rules that flag unusual order behavior.
What you can do with DISH POS Insights
- Follow turnover, average spending, and transactions on a live dashboard
- Browse all closed orders and open the full details of any order
- Replay the complete history of an order, step by step
- Filter orders by amount, duration, seller, location, and more
- Flag orders with unusual patterns, such as multiple pro formas or excessive tips, using configurable exception rules
Log in
- Open DISH POS Insights in your browser.
- On the Login to your account screen, select your store and enter your PIN.
- Select Login.

After logging in, you land on the Dashboard. The left-hand menu gives you access to the following pages: Dashboard, Balancing, Cashbook Report, Closed Orders, Settings, Imprint, Privacy Policy, and Terms of use. The application version is shown at the bottom of the menu.
The Dashboard
The Dashboard summarizes your sales performance at a glance. A Last update timestamp at the top tells you how fresh the data is. It contains the following blocks:

- Today's summary: total turnover, average spending, and total number of transactions for today.
- Weekly turnover: a bar chart per weekday that compares last week, this week, and today.
- Turnover to date: turnover for this week so far, compared with last week.
- Avg. spending to date: average spending per transaction this week versus last week.
- No. of transactions to date: transaction counts for this week and last week.
- Open orders: the total amount and the number of orders that are currently still open.
Use the week-over-week comparisons to quickly see whether the current week is ahead of or behind the previous one.
Closed Orders
Select Closed Orders in the menu to see a list of completed orders. By default, the list shows the orders of today, and the header displays the number of closed orders found.

Each row shows:
- Date and time
- Location (for example, a table or bar)
- Order number
- Discount, if any
- Amount including VAT
Search
Use the search field at the top to find an order by order ID, order number, or location. Use the date selector next to it to switch from today to another period, such as this year or a custom date range.
Filter orders
Select the filter icon to open the Filters panel. You can combine any of the following:
| Filter | What it does |
|---|---|
| Date | Limits results to a period, for example today, this year, or a custom range |
| Amount | Shows orders between a minimum and maximum amount |
| Time duration | Shows orders that were open between a minimum and maximum duration (HH:mm) |
| Seller | Searches by seller name or keyword |
| Location | Searches by table or location |
| Other | Discount applied, Pro-formas printed, Potential issue identified |
| Line status | Voided, Moved, Closed, Deleted |
| Exceptions | Multiple pro formas, Order open too long, Products deleted after pro forma, Excessive tip, Products moved after pro forma, Excessive change |
Select Apply to update the list. The active filters appear as chips above the results, so you can always see what you are looking at. To reset, select Clear all or Clear filters. You are asked to confirm before the filters are cleared.

Order details
Select an order in the list to open its detail page.
The top of the page shows the amount including VAT and the total discount. Below that you find the order information:
- Order ID, ticket number, and order number
- Opening date and time, and last update
- Order duration
- Seller, location, and customer
- Payment methods
- Number of pro formas printed
The Items table lists every product on the order with its time, item name, quantity, discount name and amount, seller, VAT, item amount, line status, and total amount. Underneath, you see the tip, the order total, the payment received, and any change given.
If the order triggered one of your exception rules, a banner at the top of the page tells you so and links you straight to the history.

Order history
Select Order history (or the history icon in the closed orders list) to open a timeline of everything that happened on the order. Typical events include:
- Order opened: table, ticket number, and seller
- Item added: item name, item ID, quantity, price, and seller
- Pro forma printed
- Partial payment: payment method, amount, and seller
- Order closed: number of items, amount, payment method, and seller
Events that triggered an exception rule are highlighted in red and labeled with the rule, for example Multiple pro formas. You can search the timeline by table number, ticket number, seller, product name, or item ID.

Configure exception rules
Exception rules determine which orders are flagged as potentially fraudulent or worth reviewing. To set them up:
- Select Settings in the menu.
- Under Exception rules, tick the rules you want to apply. Where a rule has a threshold, adjust the value.
- Select Save changes. To discard your edits, select Reset changes.

The following rules are available:
| Rule | When an order is flagged | Configurable value |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple pro formas | Several pro formas were printed without changing the order in between | None |
| Products deleted after pro forma | An ordered product was deleted after a pro forma was printed | None |
| Products moved after pro forma | An ordered product was moved after a pro forma was printed (split and move actions are also flagged) | None |
| Order open too long | The order stayed open longer than a set time | Minutes (pre-filled with 5) |
| Excessive tip | The tip is larger than a set share of the order total | Percent (pre-filled with 15) |
| Excessive change | The change given is larger than a set share of the order total | Percent (pre-filled with 40) |
In the demonstrated setup, the first three rules are switched on and the last three are switched off. Adjust the thresholds to match how your venue operates, as a long-open order or a generous tip can be perfectly normal in some businesses.
Tips
- Check the Dashboard at the start and end of the day to compare against last week.
- Use the Exceptions filter on Closed Orders to review only flagged orders instead of scanning the whole list.
- Open the Order history of a flagged order to see exactly when and by whom each action took place.
- Review your exception thresholds regularly so that flags stay meaningful for your venue.
